Enugu Assembly adjourns sitting to renovate chamber

ENUGU—ENUGU State House of Assembly, yesterday adjourned plenary for two weeks to renovate its chamber.

Speaker of the House, Hon. Edward Ubosi said that the minor renovation would include the repadding of seats as well as installation of more lights to make the hallowed chamber more dignifying and edifying.

The speaker said that because of the renovation, the House adjourned to resume sitting on  November 23, 2017.

Meanwhile, before the adjournment, the House passed into law the Amended Consolidation of all Property and Land Based Rates and Charges payable under Property Rates Law; Local Government Law and Assessment Law in Enugu State, Law No.7, 2016, into a new Land Based Charge to be called Property Land Use Charge, to make provision for the levying and collection of charges and for connected purposes, House Bill No. 14, 2017.

Leader of the House, Hon. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu while pleading with his colleagues to pass the amended law said that the bill was passed into law on August 9, 2016 but is now due for amendment to become more functional.

Members who spoke in favour of the bill said that it was not a contentious one and for this reason, the bill was unanimously passed into law.
