Contractors protest non-payment at Finance Ministry
By Emma Ujah, Abuja Bureau Chief
ABUJA—Contractors, yesterday, demonstrated against the continued non-payment of debts owed them by the Federal Government.
Some of the debts, they claimed, were as old over 10 years.
According to the contractors, the current administration has been making promises towards paying them but has failed to do so which prompted the action.
The demonstrators, who besiege the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Finance, insisted on seeing the minister and telling her their grievances in person.
However, they were assuaged when the acting Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Olubunmi Siyanbola, came out to receive them.
After listening to them, she explained that the Federal Government was already working on their demand.
It was after she gave the assurance that they dispersed, but not without a warning that they would return, if the government failed to act expeditiously on their demand.
