OLEH—ISOKO National Youth Assembly, INYA, has told the Nigeria Petroleum Development Company, NPDC, to mobilise for the clean-up of oil spills in the Ogini oil field, Isoko North Local Government Area, Delta State, failing which it will be forced to shut down oil explorations in the area.

It also called on the Federal Government to take urgent steps to open talks with Isoko people with a view to enrolling their youths in the non-violent phase of the amnesty programme and dissuade “the peaceful and patient youths of Isoko from the growing notion that development of our region can only come by violent agitation.”

Addressing newsmen at Aradhe community, INYA President, Ovie Umuakpo, blamed the recent spillage at the Ogini flow station on the poor maintenance of oil facilities operated by NPDC in Isokoland, urging the company to commence negotiations with the youth body and affected communities “for compensation.”
