AS the debate on restructuring rages, a member of House of Representatives, Hon. Emmanuel Oghene Egoh, has urged the nation to go back to the first Republic constitution, which he described as the constitution the founding fathers of Nigeria agreed on.

Chris Akiri

Egoh who represents Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency spoke at the launch of two books titled “Reminiscences; Autobiographical Notes” and “The Way It Is” Volume 2, written by a lawyer Chris Akiri, which held at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs NIIA, at Kofo Abayomi, Victoria Island Lagos.

According to Egoh who was the chairman at the event, restructuring is going back to what the founding fathers of Nigeria agreed on. “What Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Ahmadu Bello, Okotie Eboh, S.L Akintola, and others who agreed on what Nigeria constitution should be. That was the constitution everybody agreed on after several disagreements, i.e 1963 constitution which gave autonomy to all the constituents of the federation. That constitution stated what every component should contribute to the centre. The other constitutions were written by the military” he said.

Chief launcher, Mr. Dan Esiekpe, lauded the efforts of the author saying that the books were written to influence family love, family welfare and public policy. He said “The reminiscence of the book talks about the challenges of raising a child in the midst of poverty, envy, subterfuge. I am sure when you read the books, you will see yourself in so many chapters, when I read the books, I suddenly saw myself in them. Akiri wants to influence and affect public policy so that the roads travelled will not be traveled by our children and he wants to embed public policy objectives in these books, in the society and in all of us because as you buy these books you carry the message beyond this shore”.

Akiri who was called to the bar in 1992, has been in active practice. He also worked in both public and private sectors.
