Rep urges Niger Delta youths to shun restiveness
By Jeremiah Urowayino
Member representing Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Assembly, Mr. Daniel Reyenieju has urged youths of the Niger Delta region to espouse peace so as not to scare away investors.
Reyenieju made this disclosure yesterday while addressing the Benin River youth Forum in Koko, the headquarter of Warri North Local Government Area.
According to the federal lawmaker, the restiveness of some of the youths of the region, besides unfortunately scaring away investors; is providing veritable excuse for both governments and companies operating in the region to engage in massive deployment of security personal and its accompanying financial implications to the detriment of the infrastructural and human capital developments of the region.
He said: ‘If we sit down and compute the quantum of the cash usually claimed by governments and oil companies as being spent to ensure security to create climate within which to freely operate; we will all be amazed that if such amounts are invested on developmental activities, the region would have, by now, been placed on high level of infrastructural and human capital developments. But unfortunately, it is such unwholesome activities of some our youths that has consistently necessitated the use of security personnel with its financial implications to the detriment of the peoples of the region.”
In his remarks, the spokeman for Benin River Youth Forum, Mr Tesiro Mayomi, commend the efforts of Mr. Reyenieju in ensuring that the Koko-Ogheye being undertaken by the Niger Delta Development Commission becomes reality.
