NIA celebrates excellence in architecture in Port Harcourt

AS part of its bid to celebrate excellence in architecture in Nigeria and in the diaspora and with quest for qualitative and sustainable design for Nigerians, The Nigerian Institute of Architects, NIA, has concluded plans to host its annual West Africa Architecture Festival. (WAAF 2.0) billed for Port-Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

President of NIA, Arc. Tonye Oliver Braide. said, “This year’s West Africa Architecture Festival with the theme Celebrating Diaspora Excellence: The Leap into the New Civilization is aimed at bringing all architects in Nigeria and in the diaspora together to celebrate excellence in architecture. The epic annual festival which is in its second edition will be held in the Obi Wali International Conference Centre, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State between October 24 and 27, 2017.”

Unveiling the programme for this year’s WAAF, Braide, said what West Africa Architecture is trying to achieve is to further create a point of convergence among architects in Nigeria, those in the diaspora especially in the West African region, and Nigeria especially Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, as a suitable point of investment that will further grow the city as technology is a gift of God which is the mother of civilization of arts and of science. He said 200,000 to 250,000 visitors,100 exhibitors and 34 participating countries will gather in Port-Harcourt to celebrate architecture in West Africa.

Also speaking at the conference, chairman, Nigerian Institute of Architects, Rivers State chapter, Arc. Andrew Egbuonu stated that West Africa Architecture festival was designed by the Nigerian Institute of Architects, NIA, for architects, allied professionals and general public, noting that the target is to educate and create life style improvement and network with the architects in  West Africa and beyond. He said the West African Architecture Festival will be adding to its 2017 edition’s range of activities such as food fiesta, fashion fair, exhibition, music, seminar from West African region.
