RUMU-AMADI–OJUKWU—A newly created community at Rukpokwu clan, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Rumu-Amadi-Ojukwu, has crowned its paramount ruler, Chief (Amb) Chamberlain Amadi, Eze Masiri Ohna I.
Rumu-Amadi-Ojukwu was carved out from Rumujima community and granted autonomy on June 16, 2015, upon the approval of the ruler of Rukpokwu, His Royal Highness, Eze (Dr.) Collins Ovu, Nye- New Eli Rukpokwu III, and the Rivers State Ministry of Chieftaincy and Community Affairs.
The new paramount ruler, Eze Masiri Ohna I, who vowed to ensure that development comes to his people, said: “We were in Rumujima community and the community became so large that we decided to secede because we are many and our brothers from the Rumujima community tend to intimidate and take over what belongs to us.
“Today is remarkable because we are showcasing Rumu-Amadi-Ojukwu as a community not only in Rukpokwu, but also in Rivers State and Nigeria as a whole. God will provide for us, but I, as chief of the community, will ensure that the community is developed. I will make sure that the capacities of the youths are developed. I will ensure that the community is reorganized in the state.
“The parent community was enjoying what belonged to all of us, but I will ensure that my own community will begin to enjoy all of those things they were deprived of. Those communities that are seeking autonomy and a ruler, they should remain resilient. They should not use violence to make decisions. We are happy because we are being marginalized but today we are celebrating freedoms, it is a good thing,” he said.
Chairman, Community Development Committee, CDC, Rumu-Amadi-Ojukwu, Mr. Budubueze Walson Wokanma, told NDV: “We were under Rumujima community before we got autonomy in 2015.
“ We were suffering because they did not take us as their own brothers. When we have little problem with them, they will take us to police or four to five different juju at the same time. You cannot have a brother, who will always take you to juju or Police every time issues come and you still stay with him. We were being arrested and humiliated by them. On one of the occasions, they arrested about 30 of us and it was bad. Today, God has made it possible for we free from them,” he added.
Youth president of the community, Wisdom Amadi, said: “We are very happy today that we have gotten our own ruler, Nigeria today is aware that we have also gotten a ruler. We are ready to work with him to ensure that this community comes out outstanding in the whole Rukpokwu clan.”
