England beat Slovakia to edge closer to World Cup
MARCUS RASHFORD made amends for his early mistake as he netted the winner for England in a 2-1 win against Slovakia at Wembley.
The 19-year-old lost the ball early on as Stanislav Lobotka lashed home in the third minute, before Eric Dier equalised just before the break
Rashford was slated on Twitter for his early gaffe, but he rallied on and was later awarded as the man of the match.
He attempted to dribble his way out of danger on the edge of his box, but was dispossessed as the Celta Vigo winger dispatched past Joe Hart.
However his corner found Eric Dier in the 37th minute, as the Tottenham ace found the back of the net with a sumptuous finish from the near post.
It got better for England when Rashford found the bottom corner with a stunning long-range drive in the second half.
Gareth Southgate’s side sit pretty at the top of Group F as they move closer to sealing a spot at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
