PORT HARCOURT— His Royal Majesty, Eze Robinson Robinson, Eze Ekpeye Logbo, has decried the worsening poor condition of the East-West Road, adding that it has turned into a death trap for commuters.
Robinson also said the Federal Government was playing politics with the development of Niger Delta, adding that the people were tired of promises.
The royal father, who spoke in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, said people die on the road daily, regretting that hoodlums take advantage of the condition of the road to freely attack travellers.
Robinson said: “The East-West Road has been left undone and people are dying on that road daily. Bad things happen on that road. Nothing in terms of repairing the road is happening and we are tired of promises.
“The Federal Government is not serious about the development of the Niger Delta. The East-West Road is one major project in the Niger Delta and it is taking several years and yet it is not completed.”
The monarch expressed worry with the delays in the remediation process in Ogoniland, noting that the people of the state were not encouraged with the pace of work.
“The whole place is polluted, they should clean up the environment. We are not even encouraged with the pace of work of the Ogoni clean, it no going on well. There is no good hospital in the area, there are no schools. The issue of modular refinery, we have not heard anything again from the Federal Government despite promises. They should give our people oil blocks to operate.
“My utmost regret is that we did not and have not received the support we want from the Federal Government, with all that we have sacrificed. The unity of Nigeria in embedded in Niger Delta. During the war, we suffered because we supported the Federal Government. They should change their system. We need to be pampered, they should give us what we are due.”
