Constitution amendment: Devolution of power, important to us —NGF

ABUJA—THE Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, has said the issue of devolution of power was paramount to them in the ongoing constitution amendment.
This is as the House of Representatives has told the NGF to disregard the presentation made by the Senate to the forum as it was not totally the position of the House, since the two arms of the National Assembly have not harmonised their positions.
Meanwhile, the NGF has invited Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, or his representative to appear next week to give the version of the House before the forum could take a position.
Chairman of NGF and governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, who disclosed this after an extra-ordinary emergency meeting of the forum, Wednesday night, at Old Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja, said governors wanted to do something for posterity sake, in view of the agitations in the country.
Briefing State House correspondents after the meeting, Yari said: “The meeting is just one item agenda, that is the review of Nigeria constitution.
“If you can remember, the Deputy Senate president was here with us to brief us on the harmonised position of the two Houses for the task schedule of amendment of Nigeria’s constitution.
“Because of its importance, we decided to hold this extra ordinary meeting so that we can deliberate.
“So probably by next week, that is on the October 18, the speaker of the House of Representatives or his representative will come and make his own presentation to us.”
