Badoo saga: I’ve been cleared twice, says Alaka, suspected kingpin
Report at the nearest Police station, Lagos CP insists

LAGOS—Suspected kingpin of the killer-cult group known as Badoo, Alhaji Abayomi Alaka, yesterday, told Vanguard that he has no question to answer, as he had been cleared twice by the Police over the matter of his alleged link with the group.
However, Lagos State Police Command, advised Alhaji Alaka to report at any Police station in the country, to answer questions bordering on same issue.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, who gave the advice while answering questions from journalists at the Command’s headquarters yesterday, reiterated that Alaka is still wanted by the Police.
Recall that his petrol station and other property were sealed by the state government on Wednesday.
But in a telephone conversation with Vanguard, Alaka said: “This is pure blackmail. I have no link with Badoo. Nobody knows Badoo’s link. I have been arrested twice by the Police over this matter before now.
“In fact, the IGP monitoring team came all the way from Abuja and I was taken to the Lagos State Police Command, where I was interrogated for hours.
“In the end, I was asked to go by the Investigative Police Officer— one Supo Sunday. They arrested me twice and I was asked to go because there was no evidence against me. They even searched my apartment and did not find anything incriminating.
“Why is the Police after me now? I should be made to understand what my offence is. Besides, I was neither given a letter of invitation nor called on the phone. If they claimed I am a Badoo kingpin, where is the evidence?
“As an investigative journalist, did you bother to ask the Police who indicted me and ask for an interview with the person? If the person wrote a statement, it should be shown to Nigerians and the whole world to see.
“I, hereby, call on the Presidency and the Inspector-General; I want this case transferred away from Lagos. I cannot appear before Lagos Commissioner of Police.
“If someone indicts another person, is it not the Police’s role to investigate the case and find out whether or not the person is culpable?
“From the beginning of this story, the Police don’t have the right to arrest me. They went to Panti to declare me wanted without any prior invitation. Tell the Police in Lagos to stop rubbishing my name.”
It’s not personal—Edgal
Meanwhile, the state’s Police Commissioner, Edgal, said Alaka can appear before the Police in any part of the country, saying the Force is one.
He clarified that he had no personal issue with Alaka and wondered why he should still be on the run since he claimed to be innocent.
Edgal said: “If he believes, like he is claiming, that he is innocent, he should report to the Police and have his day in court. It is as simple as that.
“It is nothing personal. He has been declared wanted, so he should appear before the Police.”
