The All Progressive Alliance, APC has not adopted senator Andy Uba as a consensus governorship candidate for the Anambra state governorship poll scheduled to hold on November 18 this year.

Sen. Andy Uba

State chairman of the party, Mr Emeka Ibe stated this at a press conference Thursday in Awka following insinuations in some quarters that Uba had bought over the leadership of the party at the state and national levels as well as the delegates to the party governorship primaries

He explained that the perceived crisis rocking the state chapter of the party was orchestrated by two members who were suspended from the party but who wanted to claim what they were not in the party.

He blamed the misunderstanding over the delegates list on the fact that some party members still paraded old delegates list used in 2014 after which some members left the party while others joined, adding that nobody hijacked the list as speculated.

He said: “Nobody bought anybody. Nobody gave anybody money.
All that have been trending on social media about corruption in the party are false”..

Ibe further said that the 12 aspirants that bought forms were all cleared and are qualified to contest in the primary election.

Ibeh said that the primary which was to hold on August 19 was shifted to August 26 to enable the party make adequate arrangements for the venues required to accommodate over 5,000 delegates that would participate in the exercise..

According to him, three venues would be required for accreditation of delegates and voting proper but he said the party had some difficulty securing government owned accommodation though it is not making it a big issue.

He blamed the misunderstanding over the delegate list on the fact that some party members still paraded old delegate list used in 2014 after which some members left the party while others joined.
Above all, nobody hijacked the list as speculated.

As for allegations, that a certain aspirant has bought the leadership of the party at state and national level, Ibeh said the allegation arose from fear of Uba by his co-contestants.

He said: “Nobody bought anybody. Nobody gave anybody money.
“All that have been trending on social media about corruption in the party are false propagated by some people who are not comfortable with Dr. Andy Ubah. They have been spreading false rumour about him”, he said.

On whether the party had plans to adopt a consensus candidate given the number of aspirants jostling for the party ticket, Ibeh said it is for the aspirants to decide.

However, he said that even if the aspirants decided to step down for one person, there must be primaries.
